A few months ago, while sitting by myself for a brief moment, I thought about how I’m currently living my life and I wondered, is the Universe treating me exactly the way I treat myself. I’m very hard on myself for various reasons but mostly because I feel as if I should have accomplished more by this age. Growing up, my father talked a bit lowly about women who were over the age of 30 who did not accomplish certain things and I guess some part of me felt as if I should have had all those things completed by now. The truth is, not all of those things were on my list of things to do by age 30. I wonder sometimes if I am punishing myself because I feel I’m not where I should be. While I enjoy most of the work I do, the truth is there are things in my day that I do, that I really do not love and there are things I love, that I’m currently not able to do. “Am I telling the Universe it’s ok to be hard on me by simply being hard on myself?”. If I consider a previous post about “How Much Do You Love You” which mentioned the correlation between the type of love you give yourself and the type of love you receive from others, I guess me being hard on myself will attract that to me. Since thinking about this, I have made efforts to be gentler with my body. I’ve been making time for love, sleep, spending time with family and spontaneous activities that make me happy. While I do treat my body well with food, exercise and the things I will put into and onto my body, I was purposely creating stressful situations for the wrong reasons. I was punishing myself and essentially the Universe was responding to the energy I was creating. Things are becoming better and I’m not only learning to love myself in a whole new way but I’m also opening up myself to love someone else.
“The deeper you love yourself, the more the universe will affirm your worth. Then you can enjoy a lifelong love affair that brings you the richest fulfillment from inside out.“…Alan Cohen
I’ve been guilty of it and I’ve seen others do the same. We pray or ask for gifts from the Universe and yet we continue to behave as if we’re in a state of not having it or still in a state of want. For example, I know a few guys who talk about wanting to be in a relationship and settle down but are still having the time of their lives with other women. Now while they’re free to do as they please, they’re fooling themselves into thinking that they can continue with that behaviour and when that person comes, then they’ll immediately change or behave. As was mentioned in a previous post “The Art of Being“, It is a philosophy of being today, instead of “becoming” in a tomorrow that never comes. It is following the maxim of Shakespeare: “Assume a virtue though you have it not… knowing that the dynamic power of habit can build it into your character”. We have to become that person, the situation we want, is best suited for. For anything we want, we have to conduct ourselves as if we’re already in possession of that said thing in order to attract it to ourselves. Obviously this is easier said than done.
To conduct yourself as if you’re in your dream job when you’re quite unhappy with your current employment or to act as if you’re committed to someone when you’re clearly single may seem a bit challenging for most or even a bit crazy. It’s important to remember that LIKE attracts LIKE. As stated on Mind Your Reality…You attract to yourself that which you are in vibrational harmony with, not that which you long for or even deserve. Your dominant frequency is determined by your dominant mental attitude, which itself is determined by your habitual thoughts and beliefs. Simply put, a positive mental attitude attracts positive experiences and circumstances while a negative mental attitude attracts those conditions that we deem negative or unwanted. To consciously attract anything you want to experience into your life, you must need it, not simply desire, that which you want. To need something is to have a purpose for it and when something has a big enough purpose, it becomes a necessity rather than a luxury.
Yesterday evening on my way home I thought about attracting things into my life for the new year 2015. The law of attraction works when we are in a state of already having and not in a state of want. Not too long after I got home, a friend called me with a reading he said reminded him of me and it is something I would like to share today. It’s an excerpt entitled “The Art of Being” from the book Shock Therapy for a Brain Dead World by Gyeorgos C. Hanton.
The art of being is the assumption that you may possess, this very minute, those qualities of spirit and attitudes of mind that make for a radiant living. It is a philosophy of being today, instead of “becoming” in a tomorrow that never comes. It is recognising that courage, joy, serenity, faith, hope and love are immediately available now and preceding to open yourself so these qualities can be expressed through you in everyday living. It is following the maxim of Shakespeare: “Assume a virtue though you have it not… knowing that the dynamic power of habit can build it into your character”. It is being great now, being forgiving now, being tolerant now, being happy now, being successful now, instead of postponing positive and constructive living to some vague and indefinite future.
It is knowing that when we move into the future it becomes the NOW, and that now is the appointed time! It is facing the fact that your biggest task is not to get ahead of others but to surpass yourself. It is wasting no time dreaming about the rich life you may live next year, or ten years from now; it is beginning to live at your best right now, today. It is heeding the wisdom of the ancient Chinese seer who observed: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and it is taking that step today. It is beginning today to be the person who you want to be. It is developing an awareness of the infinite possibilities in each magic moment. It is enlarging the now by pouring into it intense creative energy. It is immortalising the present moment that your life may have eternal significance. It is coming into a full realisation that the Master voiced the secret of victorious being, when He declared that the Kingdom of God is not afar off but that it is within you now.
So be it. I also hear most often: “…but I only intended to…”. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions!
